This track is a collaboration LB has done with European group An Apple A Day and is as poignant today as much as it was 4 decades ago. You can listen to the full track below and pick up the Lyrics Born Variety Show Season 6 mixtape right here LB’s comments about the track and what it means today: “ I was both honored and ambivalent when presented with the opportunity of working with An Apple A Day on a remake of Gil Scott Heron’s classic song,” Lyrics Born wrote when we asked about how the track came together. “ Honored to be the guy who was asked to remake the song, but ambivalent, because to be completely honest, the ‘opportunity’ to do so shouldn’t even exist anymore. We as human beings should’ve won the Revolution long ago. “ For all the beautiful things that America is and has become, we have an ugly historical legacy of racial and cultural inequality that won’t seem to let up. News of young, unarmed Black, Brown and Beige men such as Trayvon, Oscar, and Michael shot dead by law enforcement flood our social media timelines every 28 hours, creating a relentless tide of sorrow, disappointment, and anger in the nation. This horrific tradition should’ve ended in Gil- Scott Heron’s time, and ‘ The Revolution’ should’ve been studied and revered as a musical timepiece, emblematic of a troubled period in American history ‘way back when.’ Yet here we are again and again and again.” Read the full article here. Austin Mahone didn't want to end the year without releasing a ‘set’, and in view he doesn’t have the support of his record label, he had to get imaginative to not disappoint fans, who have been super patiently waiting for his debut full-length album (may I remind you Austin’s career officially began in 2012). So what did he come up with? Well, releasing a mixtape that is ironically titled “ This Is Not The Album” online today, December 17th. This mixtape is available for free streaming on Sound Cloud and free download via We Transfer. The set carries 19 tracks, from which the majority are those one-off ‘singles’ Austin released throughout this year. The rest are entirely new recordings. As the title of the mixtape intelligently describes, this is not Austin’s oft-delayed debut album. When will his record label of Republic Records green light his proper studio debut? No one knows. And I mean this literally. So sad Austin’s debut album’s release has been delayed for years, two to be exact. “ The Secret” EP, featuring the semi-pop hit “ MMM Yeah”, was supposed to be his debut album, but for some reason Republic reduced it to an EP. Simply no one will want to speak about Austin’s debut album. It’s like a taboo nobody wants to mention. This Is Not The Album Out NOW Austin Mahone Austin Mahone) December 17, 2015 If the Republic executives have some many doubts regarding the viability of Austin Mahone’s career, then why not just fire him and end this torture? I can only think that the reason they’re not proceeding with this is that they’re hopeful that soon a producer or a songwriter is going to give them the perfect song for Austin to turn into a worldwide hit and finally turn him into a profit for the label. But when is this going to happen? WHEN!? WHEEEEEEEN!? Got any favorites?.
