LG has begun rolling out a new firmware version for the European Optimus 3 D. The new update, which carries the version number V10 K, is the first to become available with LG's 3 D Game Converter software. This allows just about any regular Android game to be played in glorious stereoscopic 3 D, provided it uses Open GL graphics. LG's in the process of compiling a list of officially-supported, 3 D-convertible titles, however the link provided within the converter app isn't working just yet. We gave Angry Birds Rio a try, though, and the result was pretty good - the 3 D effect was on par with the native S3 D games pre-loaded on the Optimus 3 D, although there was a slight performance hit compared to 2 D mode. If a game isn't on LG's approved 3 D list, you can still tap menu and select customizable games to try forcing 3 D mode, though there's no guarantee this will actually work. 3 D aside, our Optimus 3 D seems a little snappier on the new V10 K update, compared to the previous V10 D firmware. Unfortunately this version is still based on Android Froyo - we're still waiting on the promised Gingerbread update for the Optimus 3 D. The update hasn't been pushed out over-the-air yet, but Optimus 3 D owners whose handsets are part of the Europe Open region should be able to update using LG's PC utility. There's no word just yet on when this update will be hitting the Thrill 4 G, the AT i.e. contacts, images, etc. Backup select data on your device using LG Backup. Alternately, connect your phone to a PC via the USB cable. After connecting, select Media sync ( MTP) mode on your phone. Copy personal folders to your PC. i.e. DCIM (photos, videos Downloads, Music, etc. Software Update Note: Calling and messaging functions are not available during the update process. The entire upgrade process varies depending on software package size and your internet connection speed. When the update is available, a system udpate icon will display in the status bar. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification panel and tap the notification to view the available software update.
