I too have a HP PSC 500 and was going out of my mind. Two things, one windows 7 put two IEEE 1284.4 devices in the Device Manager. I take out the one for IEEE 1284.4 compatible printer and that did not work. And I also have a PCI card and set my port name to LPT3 and now my HP PSC 500 works as before printer, scanner. So don't use the IEEE 1284.4, windows does not like it. Hope is help you. Edd Just remember you have a parallel printer, so use a parallel port. I've been told you can't do is or you can't that, its just old school. Am so relieved to hear that there really is a problem with this PSC 500 and it isn't necessarily me not getting it. I am by far no computer wiz and I hope I can find out from you out there how to help me fix this. The adapter came with a disk but neither the cable or disk has any reference to IEEE. Could the fact that it's NOT IEEE be my only problem here? Be the first person to mark this helpful I also have the psc500, and just recently got a new computer with Win7. I have a parallel port on the motherboard that the psc 500 is plugged into. I can get the printer to work fine, but Win7 does not recognize it as a scanner. Of course HP insists the drivers are in the OS and not required from HP. They will not respond regarding the scanner. I would like to find out if Win7 can recognize the psc500 as a scanner and not just a printer. Can anyone help? BTW - the psc500 works fine under XP, both print and scan.
