The Infiniti FX-series (called the Infiniti QX70 from late 2013) is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by the Nissan-owned Infiniti luxury vehicle brand since the 2003 model year. The FX replaced the QX4 as Infiniti's mid-size luxury-type SUV, although the QX4 was smaller than the FX. It was released at the same time as its competitors, the Porsche Cayenne and Volvo XC90. It shares the same FM platform as the rear-wheel drive Nissan 370 Z, and it made no claims of climbing mountains. Rather, its aggressive shape promised style and quick handling,[2] whereas the similarly sized Nissan Murano is based on the same D platform as the front-wheel drive Nissan Altima. The FX and QX56, whose platform is shared with the Nissan Armada, are not sold in Japan. The FX has been described as having the profile of a giant scarab or a Bionic cheetah. Its designers sought what they called a cool fusion – the blending of a substantial SUV lower body with the sleek, elegant upper body more reminiscent of a classic sports car or sports GT.[2] In addition, they sought to combine sports-car performance with SUV functionality.[3][4] The FX is now in its second generation, since the 2009 model year FX35 and FX50. The FX35 is available in two drivetrains, the RWD and the AWD, which are both fitted to a dual overhead cam 3.5-liter 24-valve V6 VQ35 DE gasoline engine, with aluminum-alloy block and heads, electronically controlled throttle.

It was more of stylish, luxury crossover with a sporty edge. Sharing its platform with the Nissan 350 Z instead of a Pathfinder, the aggressively styled FX was more of a fun-to-drive street machine than offroad-capable SUV. The FX was offered with both RWD and AWD versions. The FX35 had the 300hp 3.5 L V6 motor from the 350 Z with a five-speed automatic tranny that featured a manumatic shift mode. The pricier FX45 used a more powerful 4.5 liter V8, but both were equipped with same Infiniti luxury touches. The next generation FX came out in the 2009 model year. The better selling V6 version remained the FX35, but the V8 model was renamed FX50, due to an engine change to a new 5.0 L V8, which put out close to 400 hp, and a smoother shifting 7 speed automatic transmission. The exterior looks were softened a bit, the interior was upgraded in design and material, and the suspension was upgraded improving what was already a pretty good ride with decent handling. A minor facelift followed in 2012. But in 2014, Infiniti renamed its entire product line using the letter Q plus 2 digit multiples of 10. So the FX37 and FX50 became the QX70.
