CHEEKTOWAGA, N. Y. ( WIVB) — As Walmart officials cut the ribbon for their new Supercenter on Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga, Wednesday, the first Metro Bus arrived on store property bringing customers and Walmart employees to the new location. Walmart set up a new bus stop just to the east side of the store. The bus’s arrival climaxed more than a month of wrangling over whether NFTA buses would be allowed on Walmart property. Officials for the giant retailer initially concluded that putting a bus stop at the store’s front lacked space for a bus turnaround and would be too dangerous, so the NFTA set up a bus stop on Walden Avenue past the store’s parking lot. But pressure from elected leaders and the public led to a new drop-off spot — the Garden Center entrance. The announcement of a drop-off location comes after Cheektowaga officials, along with Walmart and NFTA worked together on a plan that would provide safety and convenience for travelers as well as Walmart customers. NFTA bus riders heading east or west can start traveling to that entrance. The bus will not travel into the main parking lot. It will instead utilize an access road at the side of the store. Walmart’s new Supercenter east of Union Road replaces the former location at the Thruway Plaza near Harlem Road.
Buffalo, New York - the historical industrial capital of the early 20th Century Buffalo is located on the shores of Lake Erie in upstate New York. Its fine neoclassical, beaux arts and art deco architecture speak to its history as an industrial capital in the early 20th Century. Its landmarks include the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed open-plan Darwin D. Martin House and the Albright- Knox Art Gallery, a Greek Revival museum with works by Picasso and Warhol. As of 2014, Buffalo is the second most populous city in the state, after New York City, and the metropolitan area is the 53rd largest in the United States. Buffalo experienced significant growth in the 19th and 20th centuries as a direct result of the Erie Canal, railroads and Lake Erie, supporting its economy for the grain, steel and automobile industries during the 20th century. Since experiencing an economic downturn in the latter half of the 20th century, Buffalo's economy has transitioned to sectors that include financial services, technology, biomedical and education. Other Transportation in Buffalo The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority operates Buffalo Niagara International Airport, reconstructed in 1997 and located in the nearby suburb of Cheektowaga. The Buffalo Metro Rail, also operated by the NFTA, is a 6.4 miles single line light rail system that extends from Erie Canal Harbor in downtown Buffalo to the University Heights district in the northeastern part of the city. The downtown section of the line runs above ground and is free of charge to passengers. North of Theater Station, at the northern end of downtown, the line moves underground, remaining underground until it reaches the northern terminus of the line at University Heights.  Two train stations, Buffalo- Depew and Buffalo- Exchange Street serve the city, and are operated by Amtrak.  Major Hospitals and Medical Centers If you are searching.
